Here’s a quick preview of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Group A.
South Africa: Never underestimate the Host Nation in any sporting event. If they get past Mexico in the opener, they have a solid chance to advance out of the Group round. Steven Pienaar will most likely carry South Africa on his shoulders with plenty of help from Katlego Mphela and Simphiwe Tshabalala.
Mexico: Mexico is a young team that finally appears to be coming together as a unit. Look for Carlos Vela and Gio Dos Santos to have breakout performances, and keep an eye on Javier Hernandez who just might be the most exciting young player in this group.
Uruguay: Uruguay has the most firepower on offense with Luis Suarez and Diego Forlan. Their main problem is that they tend to struggle defensively which may well end up making their World Cup very short. The big question for Uruguay is can their high powered offense make up for their lackluster defense.
France: With an obvious glut of talent, France is probably the favorite in this Group, but with a coach (Raymond Domenech) that has lower approval ratings than British Petroleum will they be able to come together when it counts. Though highly talented, are they destined to follow their 2002 squad and massively underachieve. Expected to advance past the Group round but almost certain to crash soon after.
